Setting boundaries

The process by which a person, persons or entity delineates actions from others that are acceptable to them, those that do not meet with their approval, and those that are unacceptable to them. Boundaries can be Hard (unyielding), or Soft (where there’s room for wiggle with the action that has taken place).

An example of soft boundaries in some countries can be Speed limits, where if the speed limit is exceeded, it does not meet with an immediate penalty, unless exceeded by a pre-determined amount.
